Dazu Rock Carvings(大足石刻)is the collective name for many carved sites in Dazu District, west of central Chongqing. UNESCO recognises five principal clusters: Baodingshan(宝顶山), Beishan(北山), Nanshan(南山), Shimenshan(石门山)and Shizhuanshan(石篆山). They date mainly from the ninth to thirteenth centuries and combine Buddhist, Taoist and Confucian imagery with scenes of work, family and everyday moral instruction.
