Tianmen Mountain rises directly above Zhangjiajie City (张家界市), and its urban cableway makes it look like a straightforward half-day excursion. The reality is a connected system of timed admission, two cableway systems, shuttle buses, a mountain road, tunnel escalators, cliffside paths and the enormous natural opening of Tianmen Cave (天门洞), often called Heaven's Gate in English.
