Slender West Lake（瘦西湖） is a long, garden-like waterway north of Yangzhou's historic centre. It is better understood as a sequence of embankment, framed views, islands, bridges, pavilions and borrowed scenery than as a lake to circle. A south-to-north route avoids backtracking and finishes near Daming Temple（大明寺） if time remains.
