Hanging Temple, also widely called Xuankong Temple（悬空寺）, is built into the cliff of Jinlong Gorge（金龙峡） near Hunyuan County（浑源县）. Its timber halls, covered passages and terraces appear to hang above the valley. The first temple foundation is traditionally dated to the late Northern Wei period, while the structure visible today reflects repeated rebuilding and repair, especially in later dynasties. It should not be described as an untouched fifth- or sixth-century building.
